Howard
Zinn was a historian and civil rights activist and playwright
best known for his now classic book, A People's History of
the United States, which challenged traditional accounts of
American history. Believing that all recorded history is colored
by the perspective of those recording it, Professor Zinn related
American history from the perspective of Americans whose points
of view had previously been largely ignored. This work continues
to awaken and influence new generations of activists for social
change. In all, Howard Zinn wrote more than 20 books about civil
rights, peace and social justice, including his autobiography,
whose title, You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, perfectly
summed up his philosophy about life and our personal responsibility
to work for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
