Sarah
Wilkinson is the founder and Executive Director of Project PeacePal,
an international nonprofit penpal and service organization that
seeks to "ignite a generation of young people to create peace
globally through the development of person to person connections
across borders and over time." She was inspired to create
the project after volunteering at her son's elementary school,
where she noticed
the students had a natural curiosity about other kids who lived
in faraway countries. Starting in 2007 with only a few dozen students
in New Mexico corresponding with a few children in Togo, the organization
has grown to include thousands of students corresponding with
their peers in more than 15 countries.
