Ryan is a popular Golden Globe-nominated American actress who became a star with
her roles in romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless
in Seattle. In 1994, People Magazine named her as one of the 50 Most
Beautiful People in the World. Offscreen she has been very involved in social
change causes, including environmental issues, supporting democratic candidates
and as a CARE Ambassador working to empower women to help end poverty around the
world. Using her star status, she has worked to inspire women to get involved
in CARE's initiative to convince world leaders to honor the pledge they made in
the Millennium Development Goals to cut world poverty in half by 2015.
