When ethnic violence broke out in the Solomon Islands in the late 1990s, nurse Sister Ceciliana and other concerned women played an important role in helping to alleviate the social unrest and bring peace to her nation. For her peacebuilding efforts, Sister Ceciliana was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 as part of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize project.
