Robert
F. Kennedy Jr. is one of the eleven children of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel
Kennedy. He is also the nephew of John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United
States. The legacies of both his uncle and his father led him into his life as
an environmental activist. RFK, Jr. says: "As far back as I can remember, I was
drawn to nature. My father brought me to some of the most beautiful wild places
in America. He taught me that wilderness was the source of our values and our
character, and that we had to protect it for the next generation. But the principal
that came to govern my father's life, I think, was civil rights. And I believe
there's no more crucial civil rights issue than environmental protection." Kennedy
is currently vice-chairman of the Board of Directors for Riverkeeper, Inc. whose
mission is to "safeguard the ecological integrity of the Hudson River". He is
also a radio commentator and spokesman for many environmental concerns.
