In
1974, Marilee Karl co-founded Isis International, an organization that for more
than 30 years has helped support and inspire tens of thousands of women activists
around the world involved in community action, conflict resolution, and women's
empowerment. Isis International helps women's organizations build up their infrastructure
and network and communicate with other women and organizations around the world.
Because of her involvement in many different movements for social change -- civil
and human rights, indigenous rights, social justice, equitable development and
women's empowerment -- Marilee Karl met many women around the world who were part
of the growing international women's movement, and co-founded Isis International
to help women around the world share ideas and resources to help accelerate global
change. Marilee Karl
was nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1000 Women for the
Nobel Peace Prize project.
