Scarlett
Johansson is a Golden Globe-nominated American actress who has been named the
most beautiful woman alive by a number of different magazines. She first captured
the public's attention at 14 in the 1998 movie, The Horse Whisperer and gained
public and critical success after starring in Lost in Translation and Girl
With a Pearl Earring. Offscreen Scarlett Johansson has been politically active,
working with the grassroots political organization MoveOn.org on several campaigns,
and has supported many charities working for a better world. She made headlines
in February 2007 when she didn't show up at the Oscars - she was on a trip to
India and Sri Lanka working with the international relief organization, Oxfam,
in their fight against poverty. She saw first hand the desperate need for education
and basic health care to help save the lives of millions of poor children and
their families. Helping raise awareness about the world's poor and the goal of
ending poverty has long been a passion of this superstar -- She has also been
working with the Global Call To Action Against Poverty, Make Poverty History and
the ONE campaign, as well as with USA Harvest to help end hunger in America, and
with Product RED to help raise money for women and children with AIDS in Africa.
