Far
away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations.
I may not reach them but I can look up and see their
beauty, believe in them, and try to follow them.
-- Louisa May Alcott
Why
are we so zealous, then, about the private sector?
We persist in designating a large part of the economy
as private so that we can disavow public responsibility
for its evils and claim individual merit for its
blessings. As a civic body, we are reluctant to
countenance and cure the deprivations of the poor,
the damage to the environment, and the trivialization
of culture that are the depressing concomitants
of our advanced industrial economy. At the same
time applauding the rich and powerful who claim
their privileges as the fruits of their rugged and
individual efforts, we sanction our positions and
our aspirations
-- Albert Borgmann
In the globalized world that is ours, maybe we
are moving towards a global village, but that
global village brings in a lot of different people,
a lot of different ideas, lots of different backgrounds,
lots of different aspirations. I think respect
and understanding will help that village function
better than it does today.

Brahimi

Our movement is of the working people, for the
working people, by the working people. . . . There
is not a right too long denied to which we do
not aspire in order to achieve; there is not a
wrong too long endured that we are not determined
to abolish.
-- Samuel
Gompers
Once
again a new world view is arising ... This idea
is the culmination of all human history. It holds
the promise of fulfilling the great aspirations
of the past and heralds the advent of the next
phase of our evolution. It is the idea of conscious
evolution." -- Barbara
Marx Hubbard
There
has always been a longing in the human heart for
a more just, free, loving and creative society.
But it was never before possible to fulfill these
aspirations, because we had neither the evolutionary
drivers and global crises to force us to change,
nor did we have the scientific and technological
powers that can free us from the limitations of
scarcity, poverty, disease, and ignorance. This
is the time of awakening for the social potential
movement. -- Barbara
Marx Hubbard

Your
hopes, dreams and aspirations are legitimate.
They are trying to take you airborne, above the clouds,
above the storms, if you only let them.
--William James

Let us today seek to find that place within each
of us where dreams are made, where our highest aspirations
take shape. Let us confirm the power of our humanity
by giving architecture and substance to the dreams
we have for our nation, so that the promised land
of social and economic justice that is within our
dreams will soon be within our sight.
-- Dennis
Kucinich
We
need to build millions of little moments of caring
on an individual level. Indeed, as talk of a politics
of meaning becomes more widespread, many people
will feel it easier to publicly acknowledge their
own spiritual and ethical aspirations and will
allow themselves to give more space to their highest
vision in their personal interactions with others.
A politics of meaning is as much about these millions
of small acts as it is about any larger change.
The two necessarily go hand in hand.
-- Rabbi
Michael Lerner
"If
we confuse dissent with disloyalty — if we deny
the right of the individual to be wrong, unpopular,
eccentric or unorthodox — if we deny the essence
of racial equality then hundreds of millions in
Asia and Africa who are shopping about for a new
allegiance will conclude that we are concerned
to defend a myth and our present privileged status.
Every act that denies or limits the freedom of
the individual in this country costs us the. .
. confidence of men and women who aspire to that
freedom and independence of which we speak and
for which our ancestors fought."
-- Edward
R. Murrow

We develop our beautiful planet in such a way
that we brush aside the species… we risk creating
a wasteland, where our aspirations will ultimately
wither and die"
-- Queen
Noor of Jordan
Peace
- the word evokes the simplest and most cherished
dream of humanity. Peace is, and has always been,
the ultimate human aspiration. And yet our history
overwhelmingly shows that while we speak incessantly
of peace, our actions tell a very different story.
-- Javier
Perez de Cuellar
Nonviolence,
pacifism, that's the greatest thing that I think the
human species has to aspire to,
because otherwise it's not going to be around.
-- Martin Scorsese
“Life
is short. Time is fleeting. Realize the Self.
Purity of the heart is the gateway to God. Aspire. Renounce.
Meditate.
Be good; do good. Be kind; be compassionate. Inquire,
know Thyself.”
-- Swami Sivananda
