Fear
is a natural and important response for survival. But
fear can also become a harmful emotion when it causes
us to act irrationally. When we allow fear to control
our lives, we see things differently, we're more cautious
and more timid, or we overreact to situations in ways
that can be harmful to ourselves and others.
Nothing
To Fear Day is an opportunity to examine ourselves and
see where fears are causing us to be or do things that
are preventing us from being all that we can be. It's
also an opportunity to see how people and even governments
sometimes manipulate the way we think and perceive things
by intentionally or unintentionally promoting unfounded
fears.
It's
a chance to stand up and declare, as President Franklin
D. Roosevelt did on May 27, 1941 that, "The only
thing we have to fear is fear itself," and take
back control of our lives.
