UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors

Every year nearly 11 million children die from preventable causes before their 5th birthday. UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is the world's leading children's organizations and one of the most important agencies that provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. UNICEF was one of the first charities to enlist the help of celebrities to bring attention to its work and get the public to provide support for its mission. Actor Danny Kaye became UNICEF's first Ambassador-at-Large in 1954, followed by Audrey Hepburn. They and others helped raise tremendous international support for UNICEF's work. Today, a large roster of international, regional and national goodwill ambassadors help to promote UNICEF and the important work it does in 150 countries around the world. UNICEF Ambassadors are chosen from a wide range of fields -- actors, athletes musicians and writers -- all who share a commitment to improve the lives of children. They are chosen to represent UNICEF because they have already demonstrated a commitment to this cause. Some of the UNICEF Ambassadors, both form the past and present are shown here.
