here's the thing about rights - they're not actually supposed
to be voted on. That's why they're called rights.
The
biggest divide in this country is not between Democrats
and Republicans, it's between people who care and people
who don't care.
People
are not poor because they think it sounds like a great idea.
People are poor because they don't have any other opportunities.
We need to raise as many boats as we can. Helping out rich
people was a theory that we tried. It did not help anybody
else except rich people.
I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost
total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican party
platform.
Feminism is itself a challenge. Feminism is a challenge
to the way things are in the world. It is by definition
an oppositional movement, because it's trying to accomplish
something. I've never felt like feminism was a consciousness
raising effort in isolation. Everything about feminism is
about getting something in the world to get better for women,
and to get the world to be less stupid on gender bifurcation
terms.
If the argument against it [labeling GMO foods] from the
industry is that I will hysterically, as a consumer, make
a decision if I see that label not to buy that corn, well,
the solution to that is not then to make it a secret thing
that I'm ingesting it but rather to convince me that it's
safe.
Do stuff you will enjoy thinking about and telling stories
about for many years to come. Do stuff you will want to
brag about.
War is destructive. The idea that you can do something constructive
with war is becoming this facile, dangerous, intellectually
lax political interpretation of military counterinsurgency
theory.
